Cantina Trexenta

Cantina Trexenta, a co-operative founded in 1956 by 23 vine-growers from different Trexenta Communes is situated in the hillsides above Cagliari, in the southern part of Sardinia.

Trexenta’s grapes are collected from 350 hectares of vineyard including its own 20 hectare vineyard on the hills of the Guamaggiore region, where new grape varieties, notably the white Vermentino have been introduced. Other varieties used by Trexenta include the classic red Cannonau, (Spain’s Garnacha and France’s Grenache) and the soft fleshy Carignano which has traditionally thrived in the south west for centuries.

Baione, Trexenta’s Cannonau is matured in durmast barrels for at least a year, which enhances its intense flavour and makes it an excellent accompaniment to roasts and cheese. Tanca sa Contessa, the co-operative’s select Vermentino undergoes two pressings to fully promote the characteristics of the grape; an intensely fruity nose with a strong lingering flavour. Tanca su Conti, a blend of Cannonau and Carignano is matured for 18 months in durmast barrels and perfectly suited to game.
