Rocca di Frassinello
Rocca di Frassinello is located in a relatively new wine area called the Maremma, south west of Florence and it is the first joint venture between an Italian and a French producer.
Paolo Panerai, owner of Castellare di Castellina, and Baron Eric de Rothschild of Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) have united 5 farms and approximately 500 hectares right in the centre of the Maremma. Here in a magnificent amphitheatre that stretches from the hills to the sea, Rocca di Frassinello’s vineyards grow on land that shares the same characteristic soils found in Chianti and Montalcino.
Since the first proper harvest of 2004, (when 130,000 bottles were produced) Rocca di Frassinello’s whole production has been given the prestige of three labels, in the tradition of a great French château; Poggio alla Guardia, Le Sughere di Frassinello and Rocca di Frassinello the first label and the top of production.
Rocca di Frassinello is an exciting Italian/French partnership which draws from Castellare’s experience of Sangiovese, Tuscany’s trademark grape and Lafite’s experience of the classic French varietals.
Architect Renzo Piano, designed the magnificent cellar.
