With their signature wines of Chianti and sweet or “holy wine,” Vin Santo, this central region produces some of the most notable wine in the world, with thirty-three DOCs and nine DOCGs.  The traditions of Tuscan winemaking date back to when the Etruscans came in the 8th century BC, with monasteries being the main sellers of the wine.  Throughout the Renaissance filled with art and literature, Tuscany was the center of it all and the Italians would celebrate their learning with wine drinking.
