The wines…..2 bottles of each of the following….

  1. 2019 Amarone Classico La Giaretta, Veneto

A very small, family-run operation in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico zone with a total production of 70,000 bottles. Great care is taken in the vines and the vineyards look a little bit more like gardens. The selection of grapes for the Amarone come from vines planted 30-40 years ago using the region’s old Pergola Veronese system. The wine is obtained from the best grapes of every harvest, left to dry on wooden grids over winter and pressed in January. At least two years of ageing and subsequent refinement in bottle result in a ruby red wine with an intense bouquet of cherries and preserved morello cherries. It goes well with braised beef, beef casseroles, juicy main courses and mature hard cheeses or an aged blue cheese.

  2. 2018 Nebbiolo d'Alba Valmaggiore Orlando Abrigo, Piedmont

The grapes used to make this wine are cultivated in one of the historical cru vineyards in the Roero district – Valmaggiore – situated just 15 miles away from Barolo. Here Nebbiolo produces wines with a lighter structure and ripe, smooth tannins that are not unlike those of Pinot Noir. This is not a “baby Barolo” or a second wine at all – it is a distinct interpretation of a completely different geographic winemaking zone. The wine shows delicious floral elements and red fruits, wrapped around a medium-weight structure with a long, delicious finish and modulated, ripe tannins. Serve with roast turkey and stuffing, lentil loaf, vegan roast or charcuterie.

  3. 2020 Therra PoderNuovo, Tuscany

Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. 10 months in small oak (one third new) then 6 months in concrete. This is supple and bright with a grippy, grainy structure under the blackberry and black cherry fruit. There’s a sense of freshness here, notes of oranges and other citrus fruit. Hints of olives and some nice mineral notes. It’s medium to full-bodied with bright acidity and firm, racy tannins. Linear and sophisticated. Pair with grilled beef, grilled meat in general with roast potatoes or hard cheeses.
