WHAT THEY SAY

Our history began at the end of the Fifties, in the heart of Valpolicella. The passion of Bruno Vaona, founder and soul of the farm, was shared and inherited by the family who still in our days take care of their own vineyards and make wines that truly express the land where they are produced.

WHAT WE SAY

This is a gem of a vineyard – a family run jewel in the middle of an area run by giants. They have inherited a huge tradition in winemaking. Around 2,400 years ago Cassodorus – a minister to a Visigoth king wrote about the special wine made from dried grapes in the area of Valpolicella. Two and a half centuries later the grapes are still carefully selected and left to partially dry on trays over winter to concentrate sugars and flavours to make the velvety, rich red wines.

La Giaretta showcases the whole range of wine from this area with their fantastic wines of superb quality.

WHAT OTHERS SAY

The husband and wife team, wonderfully – though confusingly – called Franseco and Francesca, run the estate located in Valgatara, a small hill town that lies in the heart of the classic Valpolicella region. They produce the lot from the lighter dryer Valpolicella to it sturdier brother Amarone della Valpolicella, which are the two most important red wines in the Veneto, all the way to the sweet Recioto. For several generations, the winery has produced and bottled wine obtained exclusively from grapes grown on the estate including the Valpolicella, the Ripasso and the Amarone. JancisRobinson.com
