WHAT THEY SAY

Primosic winery is located in the gently rolling hills of Collio. Bathed in the most limpid sunshine, with the Julian Alps to its rear and the sparkling Adriatic Sea to the front creating a micro-climate ideal for the vines. The Oslavia Hill, in the heart of the Collio, can count on two more elements that make it unique: the land and the wind. The soil of Oslavia is called “ponca”: a local dialect word meaning clay-type earth of Eocene origins. Its minerals are found most importantly, in the white wines. The second “friend” of Oslavia is the wind: channelled from the Isonzo River valley, the “bora” wind guarantees optimum ventilation and a good temperature range between night and day, all the elements required to favour the quality of vine cultivation.

WHAT WE SAY

Primosic winery is well known for its special bond with the local grape variety Ribolla Gialla, which they produce in two guises – the pure, ‘Think Yellow’ forged in stainless stell to showcase all its natural delights and the knock-out skin contact ‘Orange’ Ribolla. We couldn’t stop there once we had tasted the fragrant, heady bouquet of their Refosco and the stunning skin contact Friulano.

WHAT OTHER SAY

Monica Larner writes: "In family hands for five generations, Primosic is one of the most prolific and interesting wineries in the Oslavia area of the Collio wine region. Silvestro and Marko Primosic produce a base line of wines under the "Classici" header, a line of wines from indigenous grapes, a Collio cru selection of wines, a collection of Riservas and sparkling wines."

"When the aeroplane on which you are travelling has a wine cellar stocked by somewhat imaginative expert, you are quite likely, as it has happened to me when flying 'Alitalia', to come across good bottles of Cabernet bottled by the friulano wine producer Valle", wrote the famous journalist Igor Mann during the 60's in "Lo stivale allo spiedo (literally"The boot on a spit", a book on italian gastronomy), at a time when Friuli wines and Gigi Valle were not yet known.

Azienda Vitivinicola Valle owns vineyards in two of the most prestigious Crus areas of Friuli, Rosazzo and Ruttars in the sub districts of Colli Orientali del Friuli and Collio. The winery is owned and run by Gigi Valle, and his winemaker sons, Paolo, Marco and Ilaria

Gigi Valle alongside Mario Schioppetto have been a pioneering force in the use of cold fermentation techniques and stainless steel vats for years, while respecting the traditional ways of viticulture used for centuries in this very traditional wine growing region.  He cultivates typical local varieties, i.e. Ribolla Gialla, Tocai Friulano, Refosco, Pignolo etc turning them into wine using modern technology, and grows a number of international grape varietes which, although not native, thrive in area.  The Valle estate and its wines enjoy an excellent reputation.
