WHAT THEY SAY
Since 1842, the Frischengruber family has been cultivating vineyards in Rossatz, on the right bank of the Danube in Austria's Wachau region. Today, Georg and Sandra Frischengruber manage the estate, with a focus on organic farming and sustainability. Their approach combines traditional methods with modern techniques, such as natural fermentation and extended lees aging, to produce wines that reflect the unique terroir of their vineyards. The land is worked with great respect for the environment and nature and the help of a flock of sheep to control the grass levels.
WHAT WE SAY
The Estate comprises 13.5ha of vineyards in the best locations in the municipality of Rossatz and nowadays a great plus, his top sites back the woodlands and are north facing, giving his wines a great vein of freshness. Georg’s meticulous yet relaxed wine making exemplifies the harmonious blend of tradition and innovation in the Wachau. Their scrupulous vineyard practices and minimal intervention in the cellar result in wines that are both expressive and authentic. From the mineral-rich Grüner Veltliners to the precise Rieslings, their portfolio offers a compelling representation of the region's potential.
WHAT OTHERS SAY
Georg makes Wachau wines in a style all of his own: polished, fresh and juicy, often astonishingly cool and often so fruit-driven when young that you only realise the depth, mineral energy and complex expression they possess after the second or third sip. The 2023 vintage shows extraordinary qualities in both Grüner and Riesling.
Riesling Ried Kreuzberg
Light greenish yellow colour, silver reflections. White tropical fruit with a hint of candied lime, a hint of passion fruit and vineyard peach, floral, an aromatic peacock's wheel. Taut, tightly meshed, white stone fruit, fine fruit sweetness, countered by a radiant acidity, incredibly precise and with great length, sure potential for many years. (98 Points, Peter Moser, Falstaff)
